Objects lined up in a row are quite aesthetically pleasing to me. Their appearance also satisfies the neurotic tendencies I harbor for ensuring things feel organized, even if they may not in fact be...organized. Example? Here it comes: I like to open up all the mail I receive that looks too important to throw away, shuffle it into a orderly stack, and then not read it. I find this method both comforting and ineffective. Just the way I like it.

july eighteenth two thousand ten
this weekend I discovered the most wonderful game that is cornhole or bean bag toss with a fancy name. patrick insisted on balancing the bean bags on his head despite threats to knock them off. what a card.

july thirteenth two thousand ten
one of patrick's friends asked me to take a picture of the lamp posts outside of the de young museum for his girlfriend's grad school architecture project. the lamp posts are designed after snake heads. having never realized they were there, I found their design both extremely creative and original.

july eight two thousand ten
random acts of kindness.
this has always been one of my favorite photos. first, it was one of the earliest shots I took with my (at the time) new digital SLR. second, this guy is a recognizable figure among those familiar with haight street and the characters it has to offer. third, while the focal point (the exchange of money) is a bit out of focus, I felt really lucky to have caught this moment.
hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

it's hard to make flowers look bad.
other photo subjects that fall into this category: beaches, kids, sunsets.
still, I can't help but photograph any and all of the above.
call me an aesthete (or just an ass with an english degree), but I think Keats said it the best in Ode to a Grecian Urn...
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.
and scene.

july second two thousand ten.
an afternoon visit to the musee mechanique brought insight into patrick's and my relationship like only an old timey fortune dispensing weight scale can.
"what will my wife be like?"
"a poor housekeeper."
